The problem

Your yacht has a firewall. Your family's phones don't.

Wealth moves — at twelve knots, at forty-one thousand feet, between three homes. Attackers don't go for the hardened target. They go for the crew phone, the camera at the gate, the invoice nobody double-checks.

  • Your location, published

A crew story, an open AIS feed, a photo with GPS data. Your whereabouts are rarely hacked — they are posted.

  • One changed bank detail

Forged invoices for fuel, berths and refits are a well-known attack on captains and family offices. It takes one email to redirect a six-figure payment.

  • One link, one failure

One satellite link, one router, one password every contractor knows. When it fails, it fails in front of your guests.

Why Leeward

One partner. Every place. A written standard.

Most owners deal with a different provider for every yacht, home and system — and none of them sees the whole picture. Leeward plans, supplies, installs and looks after everything from one source, worldwide, and measures it against twelve written rules.

Programmes

Six programmes. One standard.

Every engagement starts with a Survey. Everything else builds on what we find — for one yacht or an entire portfolio.

Hover or tap a programme — the outer ring shows which rules of the Leeward Standard it covers.

Programme instrument: six programmes on the inner ring, the twelve rules of the Leeward Standard on the outer ring. The selected programme is connected to the rules it covers.

Leeward Survey

Format: One-off · fixed fee

The complete picture. In writing.

On board, on site or in the hangar, we map every link, device, account and access. You receive a prioritised report: what is exposed, what it would cost you, and what to fix first.

We test every network, satellite and 5G link, router, camera, door system, laptop, phone and cloud account against the twelve rules of the Leeward Standard — on board, on site or in the hangar. Every finding is rated by risk and cost, so you, your captain, flight department or family office know exactly where to start.

Ideal for
New owners, after a refit, a new captain or family office — or simply when nobody has the full picture.
Typical duration
Depending on scope: days on site, then analysis and a written report

What you get

  • On-site survey of every link, device and account
  • Network and Wi-Fi map for owner, guests and crew
  • Exposure check: what is visible from the internet
  • Risk report rated against the Leeward Standard
  • Prioritised roadmap with cost estimates
  • Debrief with you and your crew or staff

Outcome: A clear, written answer to: how exposed are we — and what do we fix first?

Survey guarantee: if we find fewer than 10 concrete improvements, you don't pay for the Survey.

The Leeward Standard

Twelve rules. Every client. Checked every year.

Equipment changes. The standard stays: every yacht, aircraft and home is measured against the same twelve rules.

  1. § 01Owner, guest and crew networks are separated. Always.
  2. § 02Bridge, engine and avionics systems stay isolated from guest IT.
  3. § 03Two independent internet paths with automatic failover.
  4. § 04Cameras and door systems are never directly exposed to the internet.
  5. § 05No device keeps its factory password.
  6. § 06Every important login — e-mail, cloud, banking, remote access — uses passkeys or multi-factor authentication.
  7. § 07Access is personal and logged — and ends the day the job ends.
  8. § 08Every device is inventoried, encrypted and kept up to date.
  9. § 09Changed bank details are confirmed by call-back. Every time.
  10. § 10Live locations stay off by default — for family and crew.
  11. § 11Backups exist offline and are restored in a test every year.
  12. § 12A written incident plan — and everyone trained on it before the season.

About

An architect who flies and sails. One partner for everything.

Leeward was founded by a cloud and security architect who designs infrastructure for large enterprises — and who holds a pilot's licence and boat licences. That combination is rare: we understand a flight department's checklist and a captain's watch system as well as a firewall policy. And we speak to your crew in their language. Headquartered in Hamburg, we work on site wherever our clients are.

Principles

What you can hold us to

  • Supplier-neutral

Tied to no manufacturer. We recommend what fits — and show every hardware price openly.

  • Invisible

Racks behind joinery, cables where the designer wants them, nothing blinking in the salon.

  • Discreet

Client names never appear in our marketing. References are shared in person, with consent.

  • Accountable

One contact who answers for the whole system — across yachts, aircraft and homes.

We are taking on a small number of yachts, aircraft and estates for the 2027 season. Founding clients work directly with the founder and fix their first-year terms.

FAQ

Questions owners ask first

Why start with a Survey?

Because nobody can secure what nobody has mapped. The Survey gives you a written picture of every link, device and account — and a prioritised plan. It is a fixed fee, and you keep the report whether or not we work together afterwards.

Do you supply the hardware as well?

Yes — everything from one source. We recommend supplier-neutral hardware for your yacht, aircraft or home, supply and install it with vetted partners and look after it afterwards. Every price is itemised. If you prefer to buy yourself, we specify and accept delivery.

Can you replace our current IT providers?

Yes, if you want: most clients move from several providers per property to one. Where an ETO, flight department or estate staff are in place, we work alongside them and take over the coordination.

Do you install equipment on aircraft?

Not ourselves. Anything fitted to an aircraft requires an approved maintenance organisation and certification. We specify, choose the partner and supervise; an EASA Part-145 approved shop carries out the installation.

Where do you work?

We are headquartered in Hamburg, Germany. We work on site across Europe and the Mediterranean, and worldwide by arrangement — wherever your yacht, aircraft or home is. Monitoring and support are remote.

How do you handle confidentiality?

NDA before the first visit, client names never published, data stored in the EU, and access only where needed — and logged.

What does it cost?

Every engagement is priced to its scope. The Survey is a fixed fee after the briefing, projects are quoted per scope with hardware itemised, and Leeward Watch is a monthly fee per yacht, aircraft or property. You get the price in writing before we start.
